# User Guide to APM Traces

## Overview
The APM Traces interface lets you explore raw trace and span data, apply filters by service, endpoint, span type, and other attributes, and drill into individual traces using a flame graph view.

## Steps to Access the Traces Interface
1. Click the **APM** tab, and then the **Traces** option in the drop-down menu.

2. The **Traces** interface appears.

### Information and Features

1. **APM Traces Filters** help you to determine what requires your immediate attention. For details, see [APM Traces Filters](https://docs.kloudfuse.com/platform/4.1.0/signals/apm/traces/filters/).

- To show filters, expand the filters by clicking the  icon in the top left corner of the page.
   - To hide the filters, click the  icon in the top right corner of the filter panel.

2. **Search** for any tag on ingested spans.

3. **Overall interval**. The default is **Last 5 minutes**. Click the drop-down to use the time picker to select the appropriate time interval.

4. **Refresh display**: click  to update the display.

5. The **View type** selector enables you to specify the view by selecting one of the following modes:

6. Select the **Errors only** option to report only on traces that contain an error.

7. From the **Spans** drop-down, select if you plan to examine all spans, [service entry spans](https://docs.kloudfuse.com/platform/4.1.0/reference/misc/glossary/#service-entry-span) only, or [trace root spans](https://docs.kloudfuse.com/platform/4.1.0/reference/misc/glossary/#trace-root-span) only.

8. **Total Requests** counter reports the number of requests that your system traces.

9. **Compare** option enables you to compare the time series to an earlier time interval.

10. Click  (Explore Metric) icon to expand the chart to full size.

11. Click the  icon, and select **Show Log Scale** option.

12. A **chart** of all traces that meet the filtering and time interval criteria will be displayed where you can hover your pointer over the chart to note the values of the metric and specific times.

## Adding to Dashboard
To add the current results to a dashboard, follow these steps:
1. In the interface, click the  button.
2. Specify if you want to add to a **[New Dashboard](https://docs.kloudfuse.com/platform/4.1.0/signals/apm/traces/user-guide/#new)** or an **[Existing Dashboard](https://docs.kloudfuse.com/platform/4.1.0/signals/apm/traces/user-guide/#existing)**.
3. Enter the name of the new dashboard and panel name for the new chart (if applicable).

## Download Traces
To download the selected traces to your computer:
1. In the **Traces** interface, click  (Download).
2. A dialog window appears with options to download as CSV or JSON.
3. Choose your preferred format and begin the download.
